Welcome to Indian River! Where All Trails Lead to

Indian River is at center of all that makes Northern Michigan a treasured vacation destination and place to call home. Indian River, named after the river which flows through it, is nestled between Burt Lake and Mullett Lake along the Infamous Inland Waterway. Conveniently located off I-75, 25 miles south of the Mackinaw Bridge, Indian River is a place that visitors of all ages find many pleasures to enjoy during any season of the year.

Truly Nature’s Mecca, Indian River is the ideal location to boat, fish, hunt, camp, bike, golf, kayak, canoe, raft, tube, sail, snowmobile, ORV, Motorcycle, ski, bird watch, mushroom hunt, hike, skate, dine, and shop. By water or by land, quiet sport or motor, fun with nature is certain with so many activities available to you.

For fun by water, Indian River is in the center of the Inland Waterway, Michigan’s longest chain of lakes and rivers, over 40 miles, including Burt Lake and Mullett Lake, the 4th & 5th largest Inland lakes, connected by the picturesque Indian River. Enjoy Two blue ribbon trout streams which flow through Indian River, the magnificent Sturgeon River - the fastest flowing river in the Northern Lower Peninsula and the beautiful Pigeon River- a naturally protected river, each ending in Burt Lake and Mullett Lake respectively.

For fun by land, enjoy the North Central State Trail, a beautiful 62 mile hiking, biking and snowmobiling trail, which passes through Indian River as it connects Gaylord to Mackinaw City. Up for ORVing, Motorcycling or snowmobiling; check out Tomahawk Trails which provides miles of scenic wilderness. Hunt, fish and play in 180,000+ acres of State Land including the Mackinaw State Forest and lovely Pigeon River Country State Forest, home to Michigan’s only free ranging Elk Herd, the largest herd east of the Mississippi. Visit the world’s tallest wooden Crucifix at Cross in the Woods.
